Room temperature synthesis of two-dimensional multilayer magnets based on ?-CoII layered hydroxides

Research on two-dimensional (2D) materials is one of the most active fields in science and nanotechnology. Among members 2D family, layered hydroxides (LHs) represent an exceptional case study due to their unparalleled chemical versatility which allows modulation physicochemical properties at will. Nowadays, LHs based earth-abundant metals are key areas energy storage conversion, hybrid or magnetism. ?-Co (Simonkolleite-like structures) promising phases with tuneable electronic magnetic by ligand modification. However, even simple ?-CoII hydroxychlorides, preparation well-defined large crystals not straightforward, hindering development fundamental studies. Herein, we present synthesis hexagonal outstanding size-thickness relationship (diameter > 5 ?m thickness 20 ± 7 nm) a homogeneous taking place room temperature. In structural terms, no differences observed between our those obtained hydrothermally. dynamic susceptibility measurements alert about different arrangements sublattices, have been rationalized DFT calculations. This work provides extremely easy bottom-up method obtain high-quality hydroxides, paving way for studies applications.
